After spending a night at Peckforton Castle for a wedding we decided to make it more of a weekend away and booked into the Wild Boar Hotel. This place is about 5 minutes away from Peckforton Castle.
We got an absolute bargain deal at £89 for 2 people including a 3 course meal. With me being such a food lover it was the 3 course meal that sold it for me! We were lucky and managed to grab the last room! I am always a bit wary of places that are on special offer sites as you have to wonder why it’s so cheap? Anyway, let’s get on with reviewing the food!
As always, I was starving and hadn’t eaten since the buffet breakfast at Peckforton Castle.
When we sat down the restaurant was quite empty but we were there quite early, at about 7pm. We were seated by the window and someone took our drinks order. I had a pint of beer, and then another…..
There was a set menu for our meal. With us booking the room and meal deal we couldn’t go crazy and pick anything off the main menu. However, the small menu they provided us was pretty good and had plenty of choice. What they did was provide us with a £22 supplement between us so that if we wanted to we could pick something off the main menu and have up to £22 to change courses.
For starters I had the pate with caramelised onion chutney and bread. Now one thing that always annoys me ordering pate is how you get the world’s biggest piece but you only get a tiny piece of toast/bread with it! Does anyone else find this annoying? I always want to ask for extra bread.
Emma went for the soup. I think it was carrot and coriander but I didn’t take a picture of the menu to remember. She liked it and I think some bread came with it but I forgot to include this in the photograph.
For the mains Emma decided to stick to the smaller menu and went for the pork loin with potatoes and green beans. It came with some sort of sauce. Overall she didn’t like the main course, as the pork was really tough and she was making the table wobble trying to cut it haha
Look at the
shape of that fish though! It looks like an Eel to me. It is nicely presented and was very nice even if it was a funny shape.
Moving on to dessert we both went for the chocolate brownie and ice cream. I forgot to take a picture of it before I started eating it so apologies for the half eaten dessert.
I would definitely come back to the Wild Boar Hotel for food and have no complaints. Good price and good food.
